During the last decade of XIX and the first years of following century the studies about prehistoric archaeology reached own height in Romagna. In this chronological space occured the main paleoethnological researches in the regional territory: the start of excavations in the necropolis and in the Villanovan settlement of Verucchio, the conclusion of inquiries in the sites of Villanova di Forlì and Bertarina di Vechiazzano, and the discovery of the sacred well of Panighina di Bertinoro. The death of the protagonists of this lucky season (Brizio, Santarelli, Zannoni, Ugolini) corresponds with a progressive decline of quality of local scientific production, although in the period between the first and the second World War it was an intense work on the field by scholars of extracademic origin.
